Speaker: Conference "The European Union and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence - Decoding the proposal for a directive of 23 February 2022"

Irene Lim will be a speaker on April 8, 2022 at the conference organized by the International Chamber of Commerce's "Corporate Responsibility and Anti-Corruption Commission".

On February 23, 2022, the European Commission adopted a proposal for a directive on the duty of care of companies with regard to human and environmental rights. This long-awaited text establishes the principle of a new obligation for European companies with more than 500 employees and, two years after the entry into force of the text, for those with more than 250 employees in three sectors deemed to be at risk: textiles, extractive industries, agriculture and fisheries.

The companies concerned will have to adopt a vigilance plan, map the risks linked to their activities but also to those of their subsidiaries, suppliers or subcontractors in order to prevent human rights and environmental violations.

Mitigation and remediation measures as well as alert mechanisms must also be implemented. Financial or administrative sanctions are foreseen in case of default.

What are the novelties introduced by this proposed directive?
Are the principles on which it is based consistent with the United Nations (UNGP) and OECD Guidelines?
How do companies - subject to the French law of March 27, 2017 - assess the scope of this proposal?
In what way can the French ETIs prepare themselves?

In order to provide answers to these questions, ICC France and the Chairman of its "Corporate Responsibility and Anti-Corruption" Commission, Dominique Lamoureux, invite you to a breakfast debate on Friday, April 8 at the Westin Vendôme, 3 rue de Castiglione, 75001 (8:30-10:30 am) moderated by :
Irène LIM, Lawyer, Noëlle Lenoir Associés
Maylis SOUQUE, Secretary General of the French OECD NCP for Responsible Business Conduct, DG Treasury, MEFR
Estelle GABILLET, Deputy Director of Ethics, ENGIE
François JAMBIN, Chief Compliance Officer, EDF
